mju 760 bright capture Shoot in low light … with speed. Have you ever tried taking a digital picture in a dimly lit room? It’s not easy. With Bright Capture Technology you can frame pictures in low-light conditions because you’ll see what you’re framing on the LCD before you shoot it, and you’ll get vivid results. Don’t worry about disturbing those around you, with Bright Capture Technology enabled you’ll even get good results without using flash. And, as if Bright Capture Technology wasn’t enough, many Olympus cameras have a TruePic TURBO™ image processor to help speed up overall camera operations.

Quick, clear shots in low light conditions: Bright Capture and TruePic sound like perfect features for the club, museums or evenings at the beach — don’t they?
mju 760 anti blur Got blur caused by camera shake? No problem. Imagine you’re on a road trip and you drive past a funny road sign and you really want to get a picture of it. With many digital cameras, images can turn out blurry due to camera shake or fast moving subjects. Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) provides an increased chance of sharp shots of funny things — like the welcome sign on the outskirts of Chicken, Alaska. And some of our cameras also come with Dual Image Stabilization, which combines the benefits of DIS with Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization.
mju 760 all weather • Brave the weather with All-Weather reliability. When we say our cameras are All-Weather we’re not necessarily challenging you to use them in extreme conditions (leave the storm chasing to the experts) but you could if you had to. What we are saying is this: if it rains, snows, sleets, hails or whatever, your All-Weather Olympus camera will be OK. They’re protected and sealed by special gaskets and coatings — in all the right places — so you can shoot in confidence. If you’re looking for a little more than All-Weather, check out the Stylus 770 SW — this amazing little camera is shockproof and waterproof to boot.
Reviews and Awards
mju 790 - dpreview London, 23 August 2007 – Shockproof* against falls from 1.5m and waterproof** to a water pressure equivalent of 3m, the newest addition to the µ [mju:] tough series keeps up with just about any active lifestyle. There’s no need to think twice about taking it along on a mountaineering trek or letting the kids take a few pictures at a picnic. Even for shots at the beach or capturing the wonder of marine life while snorkelling, the µ [mju:] 790 SW can take it all. For added fun, this 7.1 Megapixel camera is available in a choice of four expressive colours (starry silver, midnight black, sunset orange or marine blue). This attractively styled camera also incorporates a number of exciting innovations such as Face Detection Technology – which improves the exposure and sharpness of human subjects by recognising faces in a composition and automatically optimising the settings accordingly.

The Olympus µ [mju:] 790 SW will be available from September 2007 at around £200. For further information call 0800 0720070 or visit www.olympus.co.uk.

Elegance and durability
Representing a winning combination of good looks and high performance, the µ [mju:] 790 SW is a real head-turner. With an exterior that’s waterproof** to 3m, shockproof* to 1.5m and freezeproof to -10 degrees, this model is primed and ready for use under extreme conditions. Take it skiing; take it swimming; take it wherever you go – the µ [mju:] 790 SW can take a true beating. Its stylish, metal housing comes in four colours – starry silver, midnight black, sunset orange or marine blue – making this sleekly-designed wonder even more fun. With 7.1 Megapixels, there’s plenty of resolution for fine details, or to crop or resize images later on a computer. And the 3x optical zoom (equiv. to 38-114mm) boasts a clever inner-folded light path meaning there are no protruding parts to get knocked.

Innovative ensemble
Cutting-edge imaging technologies mean that the µ [mju:] 790 SW not only impresses with its toughness – but also with the enviable results of its photos. Integrated Face Detection Technology keeps human subjects sharp and well-exposed by automatically scanning the composition for faces and then adjusting the settings accordingly for an optimal outcome. A high ISO setting allows for increased sensitivity, which – when used in conjunction with BrightCapture Technology – yields significantly brighter results in low-light conditions. In addition, the powerful new TruePic III image processor works to deliver the truest colour reproduction, improved noise performance and faster overall camera speed. Furthermore, image results will closely reflect what the human eye sees – even under shadowy conditions. Thanks to Shadow Adjustment Technology, dark sections in a composition are identified and the exposure intelligently adjusted in these areas for the most realistic results.

mju 790 poket All the controls are straightforward to use barring the four-way jog buttons on the back plate, which for anyone with fatter fingers, such as those on my hands, will find them fiddly and it’s easy to miss-press buttons or press two together. For example, the exposure compensation button (the top segment on the four-way jog control) is very close to the adjacent menu button, and this it has in common with the playback, screen display toggle button and the delete, Shadow Adjustment button, each of which surround the four-way controller. The Shadow adjuster is a nice touch that can help adjust and pull detail out of high contrast shots for example, where shadow detail can be lost. A neat Mode dial provides access into the shooting, high sensitivity, Scene mode, video capture, Guide mode and a favourites mode. Spinning the dial brings each into play and is very straightforward to use. The 38-114mm optical zoom lens is controlled via a small rocker style control and the shutter release, and power on/off buttons sit in the usual place on the top of the camera. The 790 has a neat menu structure that provides a range of options into which you can tunnel depending on whether you want to adjust things such as the image quality or, say, the date. A nice Guide mode is a nice add-on and provides a description of the mode you’ll be using and when to use it.
