Panasonic invented the MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) system to fight against hand-shake, the major cause of blurry images. This system, which takes advantage of Panasonic's outstanding lens technology, has long been incorporated into the LUMIX range of cameras. In addition, the DMC-FX12/ FX10 compensates for the other major cause of blurry images – subject movement. The Intelligent ISO Control function, made possible by the Venus Engine III, detects subject movement and adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions automatically. Together, they form Intelligent Image Stabilizer, which makes it easy for anybody to take crisp, clear photos in just about any situation. It's automatic, so you can leave everything to the camera.

Versatile Scene Modes are another great LUMIX feature. And the Scene Mode list display makes them even easier to select. In addition to the new Sunset and Pet modes, you can choose from a total of 20 situations, including Underwater* and Aerial Photo, for settings that match your subject. Animated moving icons make mode selection even easier and more fun.

The 7.2 megapixel DMC-FX12 features a bright f/2.8 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens with 3x optical zoom. The high quality Leica DC lens carries on the proud tradition of its famous Leica brand, the German camera maker renowned for lenses that combine superb performance with compact size. Comprising seven elements in six groups, including three lenses with three aspherical surfaces, this advanced lens unit matches Leica's stringent standards and delivers an exceptional optical performance..

The zoom ratio can be extended up to 4.5x in 3 megapixel resolution mode with minimal deterioration thanks to the Extra Optical Zoom. By using the central part of the CCD, this powerful zooming function allows you to easily capture and magnify distant subjects
