The DMC-ZR1(ZX1) features a 25mm ultra wide-angle*1 8x optical zoom f/3.3-5.9 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens (35mm film camera equivalent: 25-200mm). Incorporating Panasonic's advanced optical technologies, this lens system is comprised of 9 elements in 7 groups, with 4 aspherical lenses / 6 aspherical surfaces. Panasonic achieved the world's first*2 incorporation of 0.3mm super thin aspherical lens, mold and mass production is difficult, into the newly developed lens unit. This makes it possible to fit the 25-200mm high performance lens in astonishing slim and compact body. Inheriting the fine rendering and outstanding quality of the LEICA ELMAR lens, this easy-to-carry camera delivers beautiful pictures any time, any place.

When the camera's in iA Mode, the Intelligent Scene Selector automatically sets the Scene Mode to either Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery*1. The camera judges it from the various detection results such as focusing and brightness level of the circumstance*2. You are free from annoying settings every time scene changes when taking pictures with these most frequently used Scene Modes to get beautiful results even before you know it. *1 In iA Mode, Night Portrait is not identified when the flash is turned off, and Night Scenery is not identified when the flash is set to Auto.
*2 With some subject and shooting conditions, it is just not possible to judge the best shooting details. When this happens, it is recommended that you shoot with the Scene Mode that best suits your purpose.

The DMC-ZR1(ZX1) can record motion pictures in high-definition (1,280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps)*1. The pixel mixed readout method enables bright motion-picture recording even in low-light settings. It also lets you use zooming when taking motion pictures.
The DMC-ZR1(ZX1) also lets you output HD movies and HD still pictures directly (1080i output) *2. Enjoy viewing HD movies and HD still pictures with a 16:9 aspect ratio on your living room's large-screen HDTV.
